How Do We Change?

Change is described in Wikipedia as the process of becoming different. There are many kinds of change some of which may include social change, economic change, environmental change, climate change, season change and so on,  but the change I want to pay close attention to in this post is Personal Change. Change as it applies to personal development is an ongoing process for many of us who want to be better in life.

Personal change must be recognized as being needed and it must be understood as to where the need lies in order for the individual to get the desired results.  Personal growth can be attained through various self-improvement courses that are readily available on the internet. For change that requires more intense evaluation or study, the services of a professional may be acquired such as a mentor, counselor or spiritual advisor.  To effect change, there are many sources and resources available to the person who seeks improvement.

IDENTIFYING

As mentioned earlier, the initial step toward change is to first identify what needs to be changed.  We begin by making a list of our strong points and weaknesses. Improving or changing a person’s attitude or outlook can be a journey of  self discovery. Personal growth begins by changing your thought patterns.  The way we handle certain situations basically depends on the way we think. Positive thoughts or negative thoughts adversely affect the progress made toward complete change.  But first and foremost, we must be willing to commit to change once the area of weakness  is identified.

When changing one’s pattern of thinking, you may be surprised to learn things about yourself that were previously unknown. As we learn and mentally change, a new attitude is created and a new you is born. Learning is an ongoing process that not only applies to the academic world but it applies to learning one’s self as well.

RE-PROGRAMMING OUR THOUGHTS

As we go through life, our patterns of thought control the outcome of every day situations. If we have been in the habit of constantly thinking negative thoughts, then they are the results we’ll always get. Everything we do can be categorized as either a good or bad habit.  To effect change, we must learn to adapt good habits just as easily as we learned to adapt bad ones.  Hence the need to re-program our thoughts by removing old negative ways of thinking so that we can replace them with new positive ones.

USING AFFIRMATIONS

Affirmations are a collection of positive statements that can be repeated daily and over time they can gradually affect our subconscious mind. Developing a positive mindset with the use of affirmation is a technique that allows you to change your thought patterns. Powerful affirmations can not only change your mindset, but can literally change your life. Personal change with the use of self-improvement material that should be used consistently is the beginning of the inwardly change we desire.
