Why Do Seasons Change?

Out of the fours seasons of the year, Fall is definitely my favorite time of year. I love everything about it especially the way the leaves change to the most beautiful colors you can imagine. This post will address changes in our environment and why seasons change. The information contained below was taken from an internet search for answers to the following questions:

Seasons change because the axis of the earth is tilted by 23.5 degrees (from a line perpendicular to its orbit). As the earth moves around its orbit there is a time when it is tilted towards the sun and so receives a higher concentration of the sun’s energy (summer) and a time when it is tilted away and receiving less energy (winter). This also explains why it is summer in N hemisphere when it is winter in S hemisphere.*

Summer starts with the Summer Solstice.  The solstice is defined as the longest daylight of the year, with the shortest night. The solstice always comes in late June in the northern hemisphere. (If you are in the southern hemisphere you will have your Winter Solstice and the start of Winter when we have our first day of Summer)

After Summer, Autumn (or Fall) begins on the Autumnal Equinox.  The equinox is defined as the day when day and night are of equal length on all parts of the globe, approximately 12 hours each. Fall officially begins in late September.

The first day of Winter aligns with the Winter Solstice, the opposite of the Summer Solstice and the shortest day of the year with the longest night. This occurs in late December in the northern hemisphere.

Spring begins on the Vernal Equinox, again when day and night are approximately equal all over the globe. This usually falls in late March.*

The changing of seasons, a timely transition of astronomical events only emphasizes that at some point in our lives, if we want better circumstances or if we want to feel better about ourselves, we must change from within. Change as it applies to the seasons is transitional due to the tilting of the earth; whereas change as it applies to human beings is a spiritual journey of awakening. It is a point in our lives when we become introduced to our other selves and  a journey that most of us will experience when our minds are opened to allow it.

Through Change We Emerge

Change is a process of ever evolving and it may apply to different aspects of our lives whether it’s the physical change we undergo as we age or change that occurs within our mental attitude. This post however will deal with the change we experience after self-evaluation. The results of that evaluation will be the determining factor for creating the change needed that enables us to emerge with a different philosophy of life.

I’ve learned that in order to change things around us,  we must change from within.  Of course, the first place to start (as mentioned in my earlier post ) is by changing the way we think.   In order to accomplish this we must first remove all negative impulses and vibrations.  Success initially begins in the mind, therefore the way we think ultimately determines the outcome.

Change is something that will not happen overnight, it is a long road to an ongoing process that requires constant work in order to effect the desired results.  Have you ever heard this famous quote by Tao Lu,  “The journey of a thousand miles begins with one step?”   Well the process for change starts with one simple step to think of what you want to accomplish in a positive way!

So why is change the hardest thing to do?  It’s because our pattern of thought and everything we do is simply a habit (whether good or bad) and often we fear the idea of change. Another reason may be the fact that we hate moving out of our comfort zone in order to try something new and we automatically anticipate failure.  So in essence we defeat ourselves even before we start just by a negative mindset.  So often we attract the things we really don’t want and this is why it is so important to change our thoughts. Remember, you get what you think about.

The day before I celebrated my 65th birthday, I promised myself that I was going to get back into shape by taking more walks. As you know walking is the best form of exercise, but I have always wanted to jog around the track in the park, just  once.  I’d attempted this a few times before and failed miserably because I thought I couldn’t do it and guess what? I didn’t!  But my birthday was the next day and I began to mentally change those negative thoughts into positive ones and you know the rest of the story!  I was able to run around the entire track on my birthday; this was my special gift to me.  By simply changing my mindset to incorporate positive thoughts and images, it allowed me to do what I  thought I couldn’t.  So if I can do it, you can too!

I am currently reading, “Change Your Mind, Change Your Life” and  in the book are pages that give steps to help eliminate negative thinking. There’s an actual chart with two columns where you can write down various sources that are  magnets for negative vibes and another column where you list ways to overcome them. This book is really a good read and I highly suggest that you add it to your “to do list”.

To some change may come easy, then others may need to work harder. But if you want to see or make a difference in any area of your life you must be persistent with your efforts.  It is up to you to begin the process because change won’t happen until you change inside.  Always think positive thoughts in order to accomplish your goals and also succeed at developing the person you want to become.

How Do We Change?

Change is described in Wikipedia as the process of becoming different. There are many kinds of change some of which may include social change, economic change, environmental change, climate change, season change and so on,  but the change I want to pay close attention to in this post is Personal Change. Change as it applies to personal development is an ongoing process for many of us who want to be better in life.

Personal change must be recognized as being needed and it must be understood as to where the need lies in order for the individual to get the desired results.  Personal growth can be attained through various self-improvement courses that are readily available on the internet. For change that requires more intense evaluation or study, the services of a professional may be acquired such as a mentor, counselor or spiritual advisor.  To effect change, there are many sources and resources available to the person who seeks improvement.

As mentioned earlier, the initial step toward change is to first identify what needs to be changed.  We begin by making a list of our strong points and weaknesses. Improving or changing a person’s attitude or outlook can be a journey of  self discovery. Personal growth begins by changing your thought patterns.  The way we handle certain situations basically depends on the way we think. Positive thoughts or negative thoughts adversely affect the progress made toward complete change.  But first and foremost, we must be willing to commit to change once the area of weakness  is identified.

When changing one’s pattern of thinking, you may be surprised to learn things about yourself that were previously unknown. As we learn and mentally change, a new attitude is created and a new you is born. Learning is an ongoing process that not only applies to the academic world but it applies to learning one’s self as well.

As we go through life, our patterns of thought control the outcome of every day situations. If we have been in the habit of constantly thinking negative thoughts, then they are the results we’ll always get. Everything we do can be categorized as either a good or bad habit.  To effect change, we must learn to adapt good habits just as easily as we learned to adapt bad ones.  Hence the need to re-program our thoughts by removing old negative ways of thinking so that we can replace them with new positive ones.

Affirmations are a collection of positive statements that can be repeated daily and over time they can gradually affect our subconscious mind. Developing a positive mindset with the use of affirmation is a technique that allows you to change your thought patterns. Powerful affirmations can not only change your mindset, but can literally change your life. Personal change with the use of self-improvement material that should be used consistently is the beginning of the inwardly change we desire.
